Orbs with a will of their own
2026-10-09
The orbs have new names and six new ones join them: aim at a modifier, bind it, cut it, reforge it, gamble on the whole item, and hone it with quality. Legendary items can now roll powers that change how you fight. Open the Crafting Bench from Economy > Crafting Bench.
New
- Aim, bind, cut. Pick a modifier on the bench, then press Use. The Orb of Binding binds it so the other orbs leave it alone (one per item, two from Legendary). The Orb of Excision removes it. The Orb of Reforging rolls its tier and value again. The Orb of Tempering rolls the values of every modifier that is not bound. Only an Orb of Erasure frees a bound modifier.
- Orb of Ruin. A gamble on an item with modifiers: 40% it improves, 45% nothing, 15% it is ruined for good (no orb can change it again; you can still wear and sell it). An improvement is one tier more on every unbound modifier, or an extra modifier slot.
- Quality. A Whetstone adds 1% quality to an item, up to 20% (30% from Divine rarity); every modifier value is multiplied. Quality shows as a bar on the bench and a line in the tooltip.
- Legendary powers. Legendary and better items can roll one of twelve powers: Death Blast, Glacial Ward, Echo Shot, Critical Echo, Arc Lightning, Bloodrush, Shatter Splash, Crimson Burst, Last Breath, Ember Step, Hunter's Rush and Smoldering Aura. A power counts as a prefix or a suffix and has a cooldown, so it cannot be abused.
- The new orbs drop from monsters, are sold in the store (all but the Orb of Ruin), come in the weekly bounty chest and can be made from rune shards in the Salvage tab.
Changes
- New names. The seven orbs of the first set are now the Orbs of Awakening, Gilding, Grafting, Unmaking, Erasure, Upheaval and Fate, in the order of the bench (a plain item becomes Common, then Rare and better, then gains a modifier, loses one, is erased, is rerolled, or gets a new rarity). The orbs of the character upgrade shop have new names too. Everything you own keeps working.
- The Orb of Upheaval keeps bound modifiers and rerolls the rest in place; the Orb of Fate is refused on an item with a bound modifier.
- The crafting bench scrolls, and legendary powers glow in the loot filter.
Fixes
- Correction (10 Oct): store orbs. Since 10 October the store no longer sells orbs with a random result: no Upheaval, Fate, Gilding, Awakening, Erasure, Unmaking, Grafting, Sockets, Tempering or Reforging (and still no Ruin). It sells Whetstones (5 packs of 10 a week), the Orb of Excision and the Orb of Binding (3 of each a week). Every orb still drops from monsters, and the bounty chest and the Salvage tab work as before.
